Dear Mr. Muir:-
We are very glad to get yours of the 2nd, and to know that you are at work on the King's River article, and that you are home safe after your adventurous trip.
I recently saw much of Secretary Noble at Commencement at New Haven, where we both went to get honorary degrees,—ha an LL.D. and myself an M.A.,mine on account of the Copyright fight. T have a great deal of faith in that man, and he is thoroughly interested in the protection of public lands. I shall call his attention to the destruction of the Sequoias and send him the photograph you inclose.
I hope that Robinson has sent you the additional sketches. You have no idea how long a time it takes to get these pictures into shape.
Now another topic. We should like to know how far along you are on the Alaska papers which you have in hand for us. Would we be justified in announcing then in our annual prospectus, for you know it is of much use to us to be able to advertise what we are going to have? As winter is the time

in which the attention of the people going to Alaska is concentrated on the subject, it would be fortunate if they were ready for us to announce soon.
By the way, are you going to Alaska next year? If you are, I hope for his sake that Dr.J.M. Buckley, who tells me he is going, may fall in with you. He is the Editor of "The Christian Advocate", a D.D., and a most interesting man. You probably know the articles he has written in the Magazine on Faith Healing, Mind Cure, Mesmerism, Astrology, etc. He said he had an hours talk with you on the Yosemite, in 1870, and promises to help in our Yosemite fight when the right time comes.
With kindest regards to Mr. Muir, & thanks for your inclosures,
Faithfully yours,
R. U. Johnson.01514.
