but he is happy--in being married to the brightest, prettiest, sweetest, most attractive little woman - sensible too and extraordinarily intelligent - "up" so to speak. a "biological specialist" and, I should like to know what she doesn't know. You should hear her advance theories--at 25--which we have demonished at 37 [isn't it an awful age?] It is very interesting and amusing to have so young a member of one's household.

My Dear Mr. Muir.

Thank you for letting me know of your return from that vast, unknown, mysteriously interesting region-Alaska-
I rather hoped you would write--and that you would tell us of your experiences there. Are you saving them all for "the book."? But there is so much that one can not put in a book. that we would love to hear.
And must we wait long

for a letter She might have been thankful for anything_ mightn't she? Mamma sends love to Mrs. Muir & yourself - so do I. She adds "that she would like to have one of those girls a while - or both of them." She loves a girl - & naturally your girls. How does Helen look? Do please send us some late pictures of Wanda & Helen.

With love.

I know you would fall in love with her. pretty & graceful & natural as a bird. She is--I'm afraid should be nowhere.
I presented your congratulations. They are pleased to know that you are glad that they are happy. Isn't that it? That's all they give any of us these days. Merrill is well. has recuperated so to speak Since the elections. & is absorbingly busy.
Miss Eliza was not as grateful for remembrances as she would have been

years--until--Ulysses-like--you can return to me to relate all of your adventures. I don't like it.
*Speaking of the Grand canon of the Colorado--& all that wonderful western country. I cannot recall five happier days than those spent in crossing this continent with Mary Merrill.
It opened our eyes & our minds & our hearts to see so beautiful a world & all of it ours. And the mere act of breathing - wasn't it an exquisite pleasure?

To return home--[To our mountains as we used to say.] We are now living in the new home. at 986 N. Penn. St. about two minutes walk, (north) of from 9.46. where Charles is beautifully settled. Our house is pretty, convenient & pleasant. on high ground & full on sunlight. Already it seems like home. only Charles is not here.
And Charles is a great thing - not easily left out. To lose a great grumbling nonsensical creature out of ones daily existance is hard. Hardly endurable
