Dear Muir:
Read this inclosure and send it to your wife with my compliments.
I have your kind notes, one from Hot Springs S.D. and a previous one from Portage. I am glad to hear that you were in time for the obsequies of your mother that must have been a satisfaction we sympathized much with you in your loss.
Hope you received the valise which I sent the Saturday after your left to Portage having neglected to follow your directions to send it to Chicago as afterward

discovered, to my dismay.
We came up here on the 3d and are comfortably settled keeping house in a little cottage just oversize. The Atlantic is three minutes walk away and is seen from our windows. It is a lovely place of little cliffs and easy rolling hills covered with wildrose and bayberry, with much to occupy one's energies - sailing, boating, rowing, canoeing, golf, tennis, bicyclings, politics and loafing -- to say nothing of going for the mail. I wish you were here. We feel that we were unfortunage in seeing so little of you in New York in our dismantled condition, and hope you will give us an other chance to be more hospitable. It is always a great pleasure to see you.
I am writing to Prof. Sargant by this mail. Success to the Commission in its noble work! I hope you'll stay by train as long as you can, and go with them to the Sierra. They ought to make an incidental [illegible] of report on the condition of Yosemite & the National Park which could be referred to afterward. Tell me what your impression is of the proposed Montana reservation Mrs. Johnson sends her regards and I am as you know
Ever faithfully yours
R. U. J.
