Dear John & Louie

On New Years – morning we were surprised to see David come in with two boxes from Cal. so he unpacked our one – spreading the contents all over the table and reading the labels – We were much pleased to see so many specimens of plants , trees, and flowers, so many kinds that we had not seen before – We shared with David - and Katie is quite pleased with them – and will try to coax some of them to grow – it was quite an undertaking – to prepare and pack up, such numbers – for us – “Many thanks” -

David Galloway was in town yesterday and seems now satisfied that Sarah should remain with you until Spring – I hope that both Margt & Sarah will get home with renewed strength as they have spent so many weary years as you see them – We are having rather a severe winter – plenty snow and good sleighing – but Oh! how very frosty, - I received your letter yesterday and am glad to know that you and Wanda and Louie are enjoying good health I close with love to all
