Dear Papa, we have been watching for a letter from you all week, but have received no word since the postal card dated August 9th. So we do not know where you are. We are all well here, enjoying the beautiful autumn weather, but 2 it is so lonesome when we think of your being so far away. Have you received many of our letters yet? Mama received a letter from Baring Bros. today, in which they confirmed their answer “yes’ to her telegram enquiring whether they had forwarded your letters. I went over to see Aunt Margaret this evening 3 and found her feeling better than yesterday, for it has been cooler here today. Wanda was at home over Saturday and Sunday Monday Tuesday and Wednesday this week as Tuesday and Wednesday were holidays at College. I also have had vacation all this week a High School. I have been working hard at my 4 studies, but still enjoy them. Arthur Coleman has sold the Wolford [?] place, and expects to move away to Lodi next spring, but is not quite decided yet where they will go. The grape season is beginning here, and I think there is a fine crop. Yesterday a car-load was shipped from Muir Station. 5 Kennie is well and happy when we play with him, but sometimes he seems lonesome too. It has been very smoky here the last few nights on account of forest fires in Oregon, but before this the nights have been beautifully clear and the stars wonderfully bright, so 6 Mama has been star-gazing every night, and has seen Jupiter’s little moons. Where are you going next? And have you any idea when you are coming home? It seems a year since you left instead of a little over three months. It is growing late, so goodnight.
