Mr. John Muir, Martinez, California Ver Staaten U.S.A. Cortina 4th Sept. My dear friend, This isn’t good but it may give you a faint notion of the kind of country we are in. We had to come to the mts. To recover from our heavenly villa! Even an olive garden can’t be antidote sufficient for the August airs of Italy. I told Mr. Kellogg last night that you would say we ought to be thanking our stars that we’re not breathing in 6 sq. yd. of Brussels carpet every time we open our mouths. The color in these peaks is marvelous-a kind of salmon and silver and they are strangely jagged. I hope all goes well. We speak of you often. C.H.K.
