Dear John
Your letter of Dec'r 27th arrived safely containing a Draft for money to buy Christmas presents with for all, for which we hereby heartily thank you
I hope you and your family are all well
We are having a very
cold wintry day snowing and blowing a perfect gale while I write
I am much pleased to know that David is getting along so nicely with his work and hope he will soon overcome all his great difficulties
The Book you sent me has been a scourse of very great pleasure
to us all in the house
A kind Providence watched over you and brought you through those very dangerous places that you took pleasure in exploring and brought you home in safety to your anxious family
I close with kindest regards to you and every member of your family
From your affectionate
Mother
