LAW OFFICE OF ELLIOTT MCALLISTER 222 SANSOME STREET, SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
San Francisco, December 11, 1894.
Mr. John Muir,
Martinez, Cal.
My dear Mr. Muir,-
I notice in this morning's "Examiner" that the Bill introduced by Mr. Caminetti for the changing of the boundaries of the Yosemite Park has been reported on favorably by the Committee on Public Lands. The published statement explained the Bill as giving the Secretary of the Interior the power to make the changes. Jt seems that we should know exactly the purport of this Bill at once and, therefore, J have sent a despatch to Mr. Geary in Congress, asking that six copies of tha ^TXl^be' sent on at once. It might be well to agitate this matter, or at least to see that the Park is not injured.
In the interview some two years ago between Mr. Caminetti, Allen Kelley and Prof. Senger, Mr. Caminetti was willing to yield all of our demands, provided we would let him have a small agricultural region in the wea torn boundary and would allow the eastern boundary to be the r idge of the Sierras, allowing him to have the eastern slopes and access over the Mono trail to the old mines, our point being that nothing more could be given as the sheep men would get in. Would it be well to wire Mr. Johnson concerning this?
I have requested the Secretary of the Yosemite Commission to forward you and each of the Directors a copy of their report.
It has been impossible for me to send you the resolution that I have in mind because of some legislative work but will surely get it off this week and, in the meantime, you will have been able to look over their report.
Yours very truly,
