Martinez, [California]August 8, 1894,

My dear Cousin Hay:

I received the Stoddard views and though I happened to have the whole set of them, I am much obliged for it is always pleasant tobe kindly remembered.
I have been silently buried all summer in ranch work, correcting proof of my little book, and doing a little writing on another. I sent off the last of the galley proofs two weeks ago, and so that job is off my hands. The book will be published in the fall. The Alaska papers in the[Century] magazine willprobably appear about the same time, the editors having concluded to hold them back.
All the family and the branches thereof throughout this side of the world are well. How fine it would be for you of the old world- all of you in one grand crusading band - to come hither. An old-fashioned ower the water to Charlie would be nothing to it. My kindest regards to you all wee Peggie, the boys and the clan.
Ever affectionately,

John Muir/
