My dear brother Dan,
Your letter telling us you could not come is very disappointing. We hardly knew how to tell mother for she counted so on seeing you, indeed she asks every little while if you have come yet, and even moans, "Oh I wish Dan was here" when she is feeling real bad, and oh how many times our heart aches we feel so helpless, and you could know so well
so much better than we just what to do and how to relieve. Annie will let you know just how she is and all the Dr. here is doing and you can help from where you are, but Oh how she longs for your presence. Surely the Lord will show you a way, either in the way Annie and [Jo?] urge or in some good way that will let you come immediately
They are going to the mail so I close in haste though I would write more.
