San Jose Jan. 7th Dear Louie I recd from you on Christmas day your present of your Husband’s Book the Mountains of California, [&] am Reeding it with great interest. Thank you very kindly for it. I should have acknowledged it before but have had company [ever] since, [Eddy] spent some ten days with us [&] I was just about to sit [down] to write you when [ ] came in to stay so you will excuse me wont you. In reeding I wonder [so] much [how] he could have staid long enough to make his [observations] in what to us seemingly desolate county, but he may seem [over] compensated [by] giving it to the [country]. I don’t think any one else would have given it. Again I thank you for it I often go back in [memory] [over] [the] many years of our [knowing] Each other [&] [the] [ ] [ ] That we have experienced together may kind [ ] reward you for all of your kindness to me. Give kind love to your mother & ask her to write me often as I am [constantly] anxious about her Health, & am [Lonely] when it is a long time that I do not hear. Kind love to your Family Affectionately your Friend Abigail Bush, We are having very cold weather since the Rain ceased.
