San Francisco Nov, 27, 1903 My dear Mrs. Muir – At a meeting of the “Outdoor Art League” your husband name was brought up; as an authority on the Calaveras Big Trees, we had hear that he was out of the state, and our president suggested a note of inquiry be sent. I begged that privilege, on the grounds of an old friendship and it was granted, much to my delight. We are most anxious to know if he is at home, if not, just when he will be or if you can give us his present address, as we are anxious to reach him as soon as possible. We need his help to save the Big Trees. I have not been to Martinez for a number of years but it still has a very warm spot in my heart as does some of the old friends. Hoping to hear from you at your earliest convenience. I am sincerely yours, Lucia Schell Martinez Address Mrs. L P. Schell Hotel Stewart, San Francisco
