7 West 43d St.,New York,Nov. 18, 1914.Dear Muir:We hear various rumors here that the Hetch Hetchy grant is to be used only as a club over Spring Valley. I hope this is so and that the vultures may yet abandon their prey. Do make some inquiries. The Academy and Institute are beginning to-day their sessions. I'll try to send you the report in the press.Brieux, of the French Academy, is here--a charming gentleman--to read a paper and bring us the greetings of the French Academy. Howell presides the first day and we have a fine concert of the compositions by members of the Institute. I have been nearly used up by details of the affair.Butler gives the dinner tonight to the Academy and Brieux with reception afterward to the Institute. Lordy, I wish you were here. Cass Gilbert and Thayer have been elected.I think of you often and when I get just a little lower down in my purse I'11 come out for a tramp with you.By the way, do you know whether the literary exercises of the Panama Exposition have been arranged? Who has charge of them?Sorry about Phelan's election. I hoped he'd be snowed under. Tell me how much najority he got.Yours ever affectionately,R. U. Johnson05882
