Dear Sir:A copy of your letter to this department under date of August 21st, 1912, was handed me by Miss Nettleton who spent some time with you this summer In reply to your questions I enclose a copy of Dr. Crichton's letter, dated August 26th, replying to your note of August 21st.Further I may say that we now have a physician representing the department, constantly on duty in the municipal camps in our watershed. In connection with protection from typhoid fever he is required to test every workman who applies for a position in those camps as to the possibility of his being a typhoid carrier or having recently had typhoid fever. This is done by the use of, so called, Widal reaction. Those to whom any suspicion attaches are excluded from the watershed. Further, all employs working in the camps are required to submit to immunization against typhoid fever.Our records show less typhoid fever in Seattle this year than ever. The record for the present month shows but fifteen new cases, nine of which acquired their infection outside of the city.06327
