[Aug 1912?]Darling HelenYou know how the horrible trials you have been called on to endure distress me, & how great was the relief when assured at the close of your letter that the worst was over & your all were on the way to hopeful health again. Spare no expense for help in the house & feel assured I'll stand by you to any extent. and if my presence is wanted telegraph a word & I'll leave everything & take the first train to you. When I left you I expected to be with you again within a few weeks. But when I got among my notebooks & manuscripts & began planning new volumes for the press the work seemed endless while moving everything south seems an almost insurmountable difficulty. Nevertheless Darling all this is nothing weighed against your welfare. Send a word & I'll be with you.In any case ask Buel to send a line of a dozen words or so everyday that I may be able to know how you are as if I were with you. God bless you darling,So prays your loving fatherJohn Muir
