My Dear Muir
Had I supposed you would not have been in San Francisco before this you would have received the most hearty congratulations of the Uphams long ago. We are pleased to learn that you are all happy and of course we are anxious to see the little “love” and if you do not bring Her down to see us we shall make a special visit to Martinez to see – what is her name? Come soon
Yours truly Isaac Upham.

M – O Martinez Apr 28, 1881.
My dear Dr Englemann,
Your notice of your oak wants was a month too late for the flowers, the season here being very early. I at once went to the hills however & procured you the young acorns which I now forward with this. All goes well in the home, the mother in good health, & the young Miss Muir growing amazingly fast, tough as a mountain oak, the grandparents happy as possible. With cordial thanks for your congratulations & for the abundance of hard good
