CAIXA POSTAL 728,PARA. BRAZIL/ 13/11/11.Dear Professor Muir,The books have all arrived this morning and we are all alike delighted at the prospect of reading them at an early moment. In fact, I have just taken up and finished straight away your charming story "STIKEEN": I can see you in almost every line of it. Please accept my very sincere thanks for your kind remembrance and be assured of my highest appreciation. It is with very great pleasure that I look back upon the days when you were with us. One feels more than ever as the days go on how much advantage you have over us in Commerce: you can be truly said to have lived and moved and had your being. "Never mind", I say to myself, "once you have a little competence gathered together in Brazil, you will be off to the hills and the valleys too". Why didnt' you take me with you as private secretary: I might have improved under your tuition!Old Mr. Duff has been very poorly for some weeks and we have been trying to get him to go away for a trip to Barbados, where he may have the benefit of the change and the fine fresh blow of the sea. But he is stubborn and winna' budge.I have been sending all your letters on to the Consulate of the United States in Buenos Aires and trust that they have reached you safely. If you have a fewspare moments in which to write to a young fellow, please let me know how you are getting along.Best wishes for your health, safety and a successful trip fromYours sincerely,[Illegible]JOHN MUIR ESQ.BUENOS AIRES.05116
