Garrisons, N. Y.,July 14, 1911.Dear Sirs: The MS. of my autobiography came duly, to hand. The third page is missing. If you can find it without trouble please forward it. If not I can copy it from another set which I have here. I have been going carefully over the MS. and have improved it, getting it ready to offer to magazines. I am sorry that this unexpected difficulty about getting it before a wide circle of readers before publication in

book form is causing you trouble in any way. In reading over the contract I think that to avoid all possible complications it would be better to leave it unsigned for six months or so or until the magazine that accepts it may have time to publish it before the appearance of the book. I expect to sail for South America August 15th but will probably return in six months or less. In the meantime I am trying to complete my Yosemite Book forthe Century Company.Faithfully yours,John MuirI'll let you know as soon as possible what arrangement I may make for magazine publication. Also I'll try to get more illustrations.J. M.
