4 Park Street,Boston,June 29, !11.Dear Mr. Muir:Many thanks for your appreciative letter of the 25th received this morning. We are glad you like the appearance of "My First Summer". We will see that your complimentary list is at once attended to.We appreciate what you say as to your publishing obligations in regard to the Ms. of your autobiography. Our interest in this Ms. is such and our pride in undertaking its publication, that we will cheerfully waive the slight difference between us in the royalty, and we accordingly enclose duplicate copies of the contract, one of which kindly return with your signature.Will you also kindly send us at the same time your revised Ms., as we want to get our sample pages, etc. in form at once. We were proposing to follow the type page of the Summer, which we think it would be difficult to improve. But in the binding we should adopt a more simple style, and also please give us your final choice of titles (which in the contract is left undetermined). Our editorial dept. has suggested, "Story of My Boyhood"- how does this strike you? Another title, which has been suggested as a selling feature is "Blazing my own Trail". You will, of course, decide and also don't forget to send us the illustrations with suggestions as to your preferences, number to use, etc.We will all now put our shoulders to the wheel to make this preliminary part of your life story a great success.Sincerely yours,Houghton Mifflin Co.by G.H.M.P.S.
