My dear L[illegible],

It is with great regret that I find myself obliged to give up my proposed visit to you. When you come to travel with Mrs. M. I am much mistaken if you don’t find it requires much more power to get up an equal moment[illegible], such as is required for packing, getting bonnets safely stowed etc. Mrs. D. must start East with me, and my own [illegible] being disposed of. I have now to look after hers consequently can’t move. We leave for the East (via Stockton) train of Dec 12. Yours very truly

Wm. [H. Dall?]
