HOUGHTON MIFFLIN COMPANY4 PARK ATREET. BOSTONJune 28, 1909.Dear Mr. Muir,We thank you for the information as to the present situation of your autobiography, in which we shall continue to have a profound interest. You will forgive us, however, for writing to you again to express our strong hope that we may have some book from you for next year. It would, we think, be a great advantage if the marked success of "Stickeen", which has been a great pleasure to us, could be followed up promptly by another book from your hand. We gather from Mr. Ticknor that you have in manuscript some other writings in a fairly complete state that you may care to see in print. Was there not, for instance, an account of an early trip through the Yosemite that you thought well of ?If you have anything of this sort which you would care to let us see, we should be very glad indeed to have the opportunity of seeing it, and of endeavoring to plan with you for a book for either the spring or fall of 1910.Please believe usFaithfully yours,Houghton Mifflin Co.John Muir, Esq.Ferris Greenslet04535
