New Years greeting and as to Hetch HetchyMartinez, Dec 26, 1908.Dear Mr Lukens:With all my heart I wish you & your family a happy New Year. Heaven lead you to all good.I suppose you see by the newspapers that the S.F. schemers are at work in Washington to get Congress to confirm the H.H. bargain got from Sec. Garfield & if possible to get permission to dam the Valley at once, instead of waiting until after the Lake Eleanor basin is fully developed, perhaps 15 or 20 years. Please send as strong a protest against the scheme as you can to the Congressmen mentioned in the circular letter enclosed & get as many of your friends as possible to do the same sending each friend a copy of the printed letter to suggest the main points but telling them to protest in their own words & according to their own viewsFaithfully yours John Muir[in margin: Give a few of these circulars to Col. Sellars & ask him to fight. If more circulars can be used, let met know]
