My dear Gray,

I send you herewith specimens of the cones, [las?], & wood of the Alaska cypress. When is that 2d Val of Cal. botany to appear. Do you know anything about a 2d edition of the 1st Vol. Not a single copy is to be had here for love or money. I was married last April, & now have a fixed camp

where I can store burs & grass. My address is now Martinez etc. I learn through the newspaper that Sargent is coming to our woods this summer. I would like to see him. When are you coming back yourself. That [pteris?] from Alaska that you named [aquiline?] is very different from the common form. Cordially your friend John Muir.
