Home Oct 24, 1908Darling Helen,I was beginning to worry for a letter, & was so glad yours today I wrote you all the news about the property a few days ago, which you must have received ere this. Last evening one of the warehouses at the wharf was burned, but according to the lease the loss will be on the steamer Co. You will have to reply to those sad letters announcing good Mr Merriam's death. What a charming man he was. pity such men, gifts from God should have to grow old & leave us. But must all submit & hope to meet in a still better world when all may be immortal. My! How fagged I am tonight. In urgent demand for a Hetch Hetchy article from the Century Co I locked the doors labored late & early & finished it in a little over a day and a half. It's about the size of the Outlook article & hard to write an entirely new one without much repeatingThe good muscats were from the Reid Vineyard I must get you some more. Wanda's boy kept her & Tom up all last night but is better. Kindest regards to the Judge & all the others. & love my darling to thee[in margin: ever thineJohn Muir]
