Original in possession of Mr. Henry G. Bryant, Philadelphia.Martinez, CaliforniaOctober 6, 1908.My dear Professor Fay[?]I think with Mr. Bryant & yourself that the Club should do all in it power to honor the brave Captain Cagni. And as you suggest I hereby appoint a committee of three to determine the character of the function, (dreadful word to pagan mountaineers)& carry it into execution. And let the able & experienced Mr. Bridgman be made chairman of the Committee with power to choose his coadjutors. In such affairs my dear Professor go ahead as if I were beyond all use at the bottom of a crevasse. Nevertheless believe me ever heartily in sympathy with the American Alpine Club, & ever faithfully yoursJohn Muir
