Darling Helen. It seems an ago since I saw you - so many people & places have I seen, & so many my enjoyments. Everybody keeps asking about you. that's why I like them. But really the party is a fine superior lot of hale hearty mountain-lovers. we got here last evening & 0 the sight & sound of living water & the low Chanting of the wind in the pines. The air is not so delicious here as the dry desert article tauten in the early morning, but exhilarating in combination with sights & sounds beyond all telling. I feel fine, stand erect, & look rather braggy, at least I feel so - in spits of the rough dusty trails & scanty sleep, 1st morning all up, the whole swarm buzzing at 3 o'clock - 2d at 4:30 - 3d at 4.
The water is delicious, cool & crystal clear, & the Kern here is a noble stream. You & I must make a trip here some of those days soon to come. We are about 6000 ft. above sea-level. We left S.F on the 29th. The weather even at our own rench was not as your desert. I dont know yet just when I can got away from the mtns.
Keep well, grow strong & you & I will see lots of the best of this world.
Lovingly,
John Muir
