Dear Mr [illegible]Yr letter of [illegible] just [received?] [illegible]t delayed by my [absence?] [from?] [my?] home helping to [illegible] make the use of the park & its wonders better knownThe more I study your decision upon the [application?] of the City of S. F. for other H H Val & Lake Eleanor sites, a [marked?] copy of wh you inclosd [illegible] the greater [seems?] the mistake you have made in allowing the city to destroy any part of the park on any pretext whatever. Nor can I see justice from any point of view in giving away as you have done, to less than 1/2 a mil [illegible]Speaking of the Yel. Park: "This like the Yo is a great wonderland & [illegible] kept as a natural playground. In both all wild things shld be protected & the scenery kept wholly unmarred -Fighting for the integrity of the Yo Park -App[illegible] to re[illegible]Where I have been calling attention to the Yo Park & the persistent efforts now being made to obtain [preservation?] [illegible] to destroy the H H. Val One of its most wonderful & most useful featuresthat wh belongs to & is needed by more than 80 [Mils?] You say that Mr Pinchot has given this matter the most careful consideration & is in full accord with yr action in granting the right to the City. Unfortunately Mr P. never saw the H H Val or the Great Tuol Can above it, & therefore his opinion shld have very little weight against that of 100s of mtn lovers who have long enjoyed & appr[illegible] its wondersAnyhow Mr Sec. though d[illegible] [illegible] with you in this important matter I am still with Sincere respect[Faithful?] YrsJohn MuirCrying save our nat resources against waste while against the advice & imformation of friends who know of [illegible] deliberately favored the destruction of H.
