Mr. John Muir ,
Martinez, Cal.
My dear Mr. Muir:
I wish to thank you for your book and especially for your letter. The Native Sons of San Rafael are to give me some sort of a reception at the Opera House in San Rafael, on the evening of Washington's birthday. Joaquin Miller and Luther Burbank, I believe, will be there, and I have to go through the mill just for the sake of jollying the good work along.
Naturally we are all particularly anxious to have you present and I wish to send you a special invitation to come here and stop over night with us and take in the show, which is naturally largely your show. It will be a splendid opportunity for us to say a few words that may help on the general cause of nature preservation and, incidentally, the larger park scheme. I shall much enjoy meeting you and am sure the occasion will not be depressing.
The trains leave San Francisco for Kentfield half-hourly after4:15 and prior thereto at 1:45, 2:45 and 3:45 P.M. Please let me know what train you are coming on and I shall see that you are met at the station.
Yours truly,
William Kent
