March 13, 1880.
Dear John,
Your letter of Tuesday did not reach me until last night, when I made search and found the precious notebooks, to our astonishment! for I asked you just before we left if you had them. Mother seemed so bright and comfortable that I think it will be safe fore me to leave her in Mrs. Branchs care for two or three days while I go seeking that “satisfactory” carpet for papa grows daily more inpatient over household affairs.
[Page 2]
I will take the note-books with me, unless I hear to from you that you do not need them just now. I almost dared to hope that you would come for them, — and the “twelve days” seem long, longer than I thought. If you can not come, I will be in San Francisco tomorrow, Saturday afternoon. Come to see me at 3 o’clock at Capt. Bielawskis, No. 1615 Clay Street between Polk and Larkin, The Larkin cars transfer to [Lutter F?] Polk I shall be there also after 7 o’clock in the evening and all of Sunday afternoon. If you have made any
engagement to go away from the city at that time, send me a note to the same address.
Ever Yours,
Louie Strentzel
