Los Angeles, Cal., November 7, 1910. 325 West Adams Street. My dear Mr.Calkins:- I thank you very much for your long hearty hospitable letter and be sure that I should enjoy ever so much making you the visit that you so cordially invite. I have been pegging away at some odds and ends of work for months, going nowhere, but trying to hide so I will not be interrupted. A month or two ago I sent off a book "My first Summer in the Sierra" to Houghton Miflin which will be out early next spring. In the meantime some four chapters of it will be published in the Atlantic Monthly, beginning probably next month. I have a pretty complete draft nearly finished of another little book which I think I will call "When I was a Boy," which may hereafter form part of an autobigraphy if I should ever write it. This book is intended for young folks, telling of my school days in Scotland, farm life in Wisconsin, and more school work at the State University of Wisconsin. Helen and Wanda are both well and Helen, as well as Wanda, is now married and living at Daggett, California, on the desert. Wanda has two boys, both of trottable size, and they make a merry patter with their little feet. They are living on the ranch at Martinez. Since I saw you my eldest sister died. I am pretty well and have every facility for indulging in hard work. I shall take great pleasure in sending you copies of these new things when they come out, and be sure to remind me of it if Ishould forget for I am working here often until I am fairly stupid. 09210
At present there is no-one living in the old home on the hill where you visited me long ago. With kindest regards to Mrs. Calkins, and hoping to see you both soon, I am as ever, Faithfully yours, John Muir09210
