Martinez, June 11, 1910—Dear Ina:I've been away nearly three months in Los Angeles until called home by my sister Margaret's illness. The doctors give no hope of recovery though she may linger a long or short time. She suffered an apoplectic stroke last Saturday after a very long severe attack of grippe, and is very feeble, sometimes fails to recognize her own daughters though she always knows me & clings to me. I must stay beside her to cheer & comfort her as best I can in the gloomy valley. As to talk before your Press Club I see no hope of being able to accept the honor just now. Will probably be on the other side the continent working on thru new books. One of them is now in Houghton Mifflin Co's hands. to be published in the fall. By the way did I send you Stickeen, If not let me know. It is fine to have lang syne recalled by your [illegible] for I am ever faithfully your friendJohn Muir04792
