ROBERT UNDERWOOD JOHNSON,EDITOR.CLARENCE CLOUGH BUEL,ASSOCIATE EDITOR.June 10, 1910My dear Muir:It is with reluctance that I send back to you Rev. S. Hall Young's paper, but I think it is just as well to distribute the interest in J. M. and American scenery and to have it go somewhere else. We are about to print in the August number Miss Barrus's article on "John o' Birds and John o' Mountains," and a charming article it is; and it would be more than a year before we could have another article of the same general character. I feel sure the Atlantic would be glad to have this and I am extremely sorry not to be able to make room for it.My problem just now is how to make the Century alluring by the variety as well as interest of the contents.I hear a rumor that the Hetch-Hetchy matter has gone over a year. Do they think you and I are going to shuffle off this mortal coil so soon as that? Nay, verily - not if we can help it.Faithfully yours,[illegible]Mr. John Muir.04786
