Los Angeles, Cal., April 13, 1910.Darling Helen:-The reason you have not heard from me so often these days is that I have been very very busy. I think I told you about being with Professor and Mrs. Osborn, and with the Carnegies. Since then I have got another little book put into type-writing, ready for the publishers with the exception of illustrations, which I have not yet decided on. It will be called, I suppose, "My First Summer in the Sierra, and is made up of the journal of 1869, in those blue-covered note books you have often seen.Tomorrow I am going back to put extra copies in the safe in Martinez Bank, and gather up a lot of stuff about animals and try to make a little animal book next. Probably during the summer I may be able to get still another little book done on the different Yosemite valleys. So you see that I am very busy, but I hope to see you before many weeks..Glad you are enjoying your auto toy. When are you going to get out your first book on the desert, about its beautiful mountain ranges and flowers, and about the health that awaits every sick person by keeping their noses in the dry air.Kind regards to Mr. Buel, and the Van Dykes and Swartz family,I am,Ever affectionately your father,
