Los Angeles, Cal., March 30, 1910Darling Helen:-I left San Francisco only a week ago last Saturday, with Professor Osborn and family, going direct to the Yosemite Valley. We stayed only about two days in Yosemite andarrived here in time for the Hooker luncheon. This luncheon was followed by a dinner at the Raymond with Mr. Carnegie and his family. Then I had to call at Mr. Sellers and pay a visit to Mrs. Sage, but my principal object in coming down here was to get some typewriting done on the "FirstSummer in the Sierra." This [illegible] is all over now and with a good000 typewriter am hard at work. I ventured to bringdown only about one third of the book. This will be finished very soon, and then I want to make haste back home to get the rest of the manuscript and have it finished. Then I will make haste to pay you and [illegible] a visit.I have had a pretty bad cold and this, together with much exciting visiting and work, made me unfit for Daggett, so I think you must wait a little longer. I thought after you got married a week or two between letters or visits would not seem to be as long as years. All was well when I left home. Am glad you enjoy your blunt nose beetle. With love and good wishes to all I am as ever, Your devoted father,[illegible]
