Dear Mrs. Coolbrith,
I have sent by todays mail copies of my three books which I hope will help to cheer some weary hours and bring back to mind the days of auld land syne. It’s hard to realize the pain of fire losses in the way of cherished keepsakes. I’m down here trying to
~work hard on another book and so forget or wear out the pain of recent troubles, or at least make the worst of it tolerable. As for talks to clubs they are all out of my reach. I’m too old to learn now. Surely my burdens are heavy enough without additional work of any sort. I’m sure you’ll excuse. Ever faithfully yours, John Muir
