[in margin: Mrs Bidwell]
I would be ashamed to give so little, but honesty toward other previous, & urgent [claims?], demands humiliation on my part (give or not!) Also: I do not know to whom to vote for on the enclosed Ballot[illegible], except for you. Of that individual I am certain. Will you kindly be my proxy and fill out Ballot for Board of Directors of Sierra Club, and mail it to proper [destination?]. Please do! I might so mar matters by random crossing. Now with love to each, and the hope of seeing you & yours soon, believe me, each of you,
Yours heartily
Annie Kennedy Bidwell.

My dear friends –—
The Muirs!
What have you thought of my silence these spring months, when I was so anxious for a visit from you! Well, I have been at this address since Jan. 31, expecting to return home at any time - yet not able to write anything not positively obligatory. My strength was such an uncertain quantity that Dr Hischfelder ordered me to

remain here for [electricity?] [illegible] [illegible]nt, promising to notify me when I might return home, but forbidding any questionings as to time - on my part. Have not made calls, or gone sight-seeing, but have rested when not on duty at Doctor's office. Nor have I received callers save when necessary, having had to sleep, or rest, so much of the time. Monday, Doctor told me that now he was "going to put the finishing touches on", and that I might visit, and see friends that the social was needed now". So I write to
[3] say that I hope ere long to be at home, and to have the great joy of welcoming all of you who can come, to Rancho Chico. Also, that if any of you should be in the city I should be so glad to see you, and that I will arrange to be at home any time you may set for calling. And now, Mr Muir, I wish a [word?] with you, of advice, in regard to the Le Conte memorial fund. I can give so little at present that I thought perhaps best not to belittle the sacred cause by a $500 when a $100 might be expected. What is your opinion? Please be candid.
