[Jan.1902]
Hon. G[eorge] Perkins,
U. S. Senate,
Washington, D.C.
Dear Senator:
My friend Mr. T. P. Lukens of Pasadena writes me that in the reorganization of the Forestry Department a Superintendent of our forests is to be appointed, and he wants the place. Ha knows the Cal[ifornia] forests well, especially those of the South, has worked hard for their preservation, mostly at his own charge, and would, I have no doubt, be a faithful and efficient Superintendent or Supervisor.
With best wishes, I am,
Sincerely yours,
J. M.02840
