My dear Merriam

Many thanks for the big lot of magnificent photographs far the best I think you have ever done. Cathedral Peak from the lake, the Tuolumne Monument, Lake Tenaya, the two Hetch Hetchy views, Tuolumne Cascades, are far the best I ever saw. The Cassiope among the bowlders is charming, so are many other flowery foregrounds and tree studies. Where is that patch of dwarf pine with the children nestling in it? The picture of yourself is splendid. You have managed to make even our old square house and dry surroundings look grand. Mrs. Muir and the girls like it very much, also the family group with the dog, and want more of copies though hate to ask them. You may well be proud of this season's lot of pictures.
I have seen a good many notices of the Harriman book, all favorable. I hope it is selling well.
About a week ago I sent you and the Baileys a bag of nuts and some raisins and sauterne and hope they may reach you by Christmas. Here is the B. R. receipt that you may know where to look for them.
Give my love to Elizabeth and the sweet lassies and the Baileys. May you all have a glorious good New Year.
Ever your friend,

JOHN MUIR
