SANTA CLARA CO., CAL., December 12. 1901
My Dear Muir:
Thanks for the book but more for the kind words for "Auld lang syne." The book I could have bought, but no fellow could have bought the words. I have Just tasted its flavor and it is fine. We shall all enjoy it hugely.
By the way, d'ye mind the splendid boy at 1844 St. Charles street, Alameda? He is as fine a fellow as you would see in a years search. And you have never seen him! He Rejoices in the name of Allen Muir,[Allen coming first only for alliteration]. Some day we ought to meet there and by way of Christening him, give him a good spanking.
We are all reasonably well, and reasonably happy as well. Jessie is with us and is useful to all. Dora, who now lives at Fresno, has a fine girl and all are doing well.
I am amusing myself, as a side study, with mushrooms. I find it a pleasant way to put in the time. Kind remembrances to all.
Yours as of old.
Chas H. Allen.
