My dear Merriam
We got home Saturday P.M. and had a pleasant trip. The ride down the river canon and through the forest along the top of the dividing ridge of the Tuolumne and Merced was grand - more interesting I think in wide views than either of the other roads. In the canon we passed through lots of Tumion.
As I had guessed I found my table loaded with letters, and proof sheets of my last article on Sequoia which has gone uncorrected into the Sep. Atlantic, and of the first 4 chapters of my book. Have just finished and sent them on.
Peaches and Bartlett pears abound here. Wish I could fill your camp and boys with them, but some no doubt will be ripe and ready for you when you come. We often think these days of the cool floods of living mountain water.
Remember me to Miss Rathburn, your wife and darlings and to the enviable ever-hungry boys. Love and good luck to all.
Ever yours,
JOHN MUIR
I begin to think your plan for a Sierra tree and shrub book a good one and guess I'll try it. I shall want photos of all the shrubs as well as trees, most of which I'll look to you for as you have so kindly encouraged me to do. They should if possible be got in flower or fruit or both. Will talk it over when you come to your California home. Grace is safely with her mother by God's Grace Foulds!! Amen.
