Mr. John Muir
My Dear Sir: -
The September number of the University of California magazine is to be a Le Conte Memorial Number. I write to you to ask if you will contribute to this number an article on Professor Le Conte as he appeared to the scientific men with whom he came in contact, your personal recollections of him, and his place in the world of scholarship. We should greatly prize an article on this subject from your pen as it would be read with the greatest interest by all those who read the magazine. We want to make the Conte Number truly commemorative of our great professor and we sincerely hope that you will be able to give us your help in the matter. Hoping to receive from you at your earliest convenience a favorable reply, I am
Very Sincerely,
Winfield Dorn.
