My dear Merriam,

Your letter set us all dancing and hand-clapping. Bring Miss Rathbun - we will all be glad to see her. The more the merrier and Merriamer. Counting the garret - a grand campground, we have room for the whole Biological Survey. We will be ready to start with you. Shall I engage a wagon to haul us to the Tuolumne meadows from Crockers? Or wait till you come.
Of course I should prefer electrotype cuts. Those I want are (Opuntia acanthocarpa Beaverdam Mtns. Utah. Plate viii.) (Opuntia Whipplei, Upper Santa Clara crossing, Utah. Plate ix.) (Opuntia rutila Beaverdam Mtns. Utah Plate xi.) Yucca arborescens, Mohave Desert Cal. Plate xiii. All in Vol.7 Death Valley Ex. Send to Houghton Mifflin & Co. 4 Park St. Boston, with note for my book. Let me know when your train is to reach S. F. and I'll meet you there.

Ever yours,
JOHN MUIR

The girls and Keith and I have just returned from a steamer trip to Portland with Captain Doran and of course had a grand time recalling the Harriman Ex. The girls now consider themselves great travelers and with Mrs. Merriam and the children are ready to venture anywhere.
