[First draft of letter, in note-book #59] (54)
[1900]
Dear Sir:
I can't write a thousand word sketch. I was born in Scotland. When I was 11 the family emigrated to Wisconsin, where I helped to make two farms, went to the Wis. State Univ. 4 years, and then vanished in the wilderness. That's all. Odds and ends of particulars you can get in Am. Biography, and in a mag[azine] I send with photo.
Yours truly,
J. M.
