My dear Mr. Muir:

The contract for publishing the Harriman Volumes has been awarded to Doubleday, Page & Co. They are young and energetic and I am sure will do better by us than some of the older firms. Mr. Page you know very well, formerly editor of the Atlantic.
They have begun on Burroughs narrative and want to put the whole book in type as soon as possible. Your article should come next to Burroughs, but it has not yet arrived and I have a lurking fear that you have not written it. I earnestly hope you will send it at once, for we all want it badly, and it won't do us much good after the book is printed. Besides, we have already selected the illustrations for the other articles and have put some of them in the hands of the reproducers. It is most important, therefore, that we have your list of Illustrations at the earliest possible moment.
With kindest regards to Mrs. Muir and your daughters,

As ever yours,

C. Hart Merriam
