My dear Prof Sargent,
I suppose you & Canby will soon be in the woods. Good luck to you. Let me hear from you now and then that I my get glimpses of the Magnolias [Kalemias?] rhododendron etc in bloom I have so long been hoping to see - I'm bound fast with dragging tasks that should have been off my hands long ago. The Calaveras Sequoias among a host of other interruptions has taken a week of my time. I'm glad your London trip was successful, but sorry to hear of Hookes illness. Grand old man. The last of a group of giants - Sequoias. Pity me in my scribble den & send me silvan letters to cheer my lonliness. Love to Canby. How glad you must be in full sight of the end of your grand book.
Ever Yours John Muir
