Home, Dec. 23, 1913.
Darling Helen.
The weather is cold & wet here; rainy and wild at times and I often wonder how much colder & wilder it may be on your desert - a favorite race-course for storm winds - while you are trying nest-building. Write & tell me quick that in some way wild as the winds you are managing to keep the family snug & warm. Building a new house & moving into it is trying enough at any time of year on a desert alternately frozen and fused with fervent heat. I wish I could make four miracles for you, one for each of the family to get you through this trying time. All your times seem to be trying. Anyhow I devoutly pray Heaven to send you a happy new year
