Mr. John Muir

Martinez California

Dear Sir

I am mailing you, under separate cover, Circular No. 4 entitled "Native Growth for Planting in California" written by me (as a member of the Outdoor Art League) for the Fourth Biennial Report of State Forester Homans.
We feel sure that you will be in sympathy with the subject of the pamphlet--the preservation of the original landscape by the planting of native growth.
You will see that I have taken the liberty of quoting from "Mountains of California", I am glad to have the opportunity of telling you what a delight and inspiration this book

has been to me as to so many other readers. No doubt your writings and personal influence have aided greatly in saving the natural beauty which California still contains.
Believe me

Very truly yours
