[Original letter returned to Mrs. Anna P. Dickey]
Martinez, Sep. 25, 1913
Dear Mrs. Dickey:
I'm so glad to cet your brave tidings, poling up Canadian rivers like the courtiers du bois of old adventurous romantic times. Fine for you and Donald too, escaping much deadly hot weather, and making the European trip of our dear Hooker folk seem commonplace. Couldn't help shouting Hurrah when your card came.
Had a letter from Mrs. Hooker, and Marian, and cards from Ellie and Maud. They were at Lake Como when last heard from. With love to Donald,
Ever faithfully,
JOHN MUIR
