ATTORNEYS AT LAW
OFFICE OF
PROSECUTING ATTORNEY
OF PACIFIC COUNTY
H. W. B. HEWEN,
PROSECUTING ATTORNEY
EDWARD W. ALLEN. DEPUTY
South Bend, Wash.
Sept. 10, 1913.
Mr. John Muir, President of Society for the
Preservation of National Parks,
402 Mills Building,
San Francisco, Cal.
Dear Sir:
Inclosed herewith are copies of two letters written in regard to Hetch Hetchy, also my check for $2.00 to add a little toward the cause.
Not long ago the Mountaineer Club had a fight on its hands to preserve the Mt. Olympus National Monument; so far we have been successful. We hope, however, to have the monument changed to a national park and thus secured forever.

Dear sir:
My attention has been called to the attempt to destroy the magnificent Hetch Hetchy Valley of the Yosemite National Park for a San Francisco water tank. Information received leads me to believe that highly disreputable methods have been used in order to misrepresent the situation to Congress, not by the people of san Francisco but by commercial politicians of that city.
As you are intimately aware, we have been called upon in this state to meet similar sinister designs, and shall, probably have another fight in the near future to save our own Mount Olympur National Monument and have the same properly changed to a national park.
If you can conscientiously oppose this Hetch Hetchy scheme, it will be appreciated by the intelligent people of the Pacific Const.
EWA/H
Yours respectfully,

Hon. Wesley L. Jones,
Senate Chamber,
Washington, D. C.
Dear Sir:
The Pacific Coast is particularly interested, both from a patriotic and financial stand point, in the preservation and development of the national parks of this region.
We earnestly protest against the shortsighted attempt to destroy any of the wonderful scenery of the Yosemite National Park, and urge you to oppose any bill which will permit San Francisco to use Hetch Hetchy as a municipal water tank.
EWA/H
Yours respectfully.
