Dear friend Mr. Muir.
It has been weeks since I have heard from you personally, although I have heard about you from other sources.
The Hetch-Hetchy matter has kept you busy I imagine, and it looks as though you were to succeed in keeping it from those vandals. It would

indeed be a shame to destroy its beauty as a park for commercial purposes, particularly, where it is not necessary. You are a good fighter when you believe you are in the right, and in this case you most assuredly are. It will be decided soon and I sincerely trust you will win.
The Sierra Club members have had a glorious outing this year, even if the weather condi-

tions were unusual. A number of my friends in Pasadena, were members of the party and enjoyed it more than any they had heretofore taken. What are you doing? and are you always going to stay in that lonely house? I can imagine you there, writing, day after day, because you feel that you must finish your work, but you

[morn-]ing I went to Vroman's store and was shown a set of your books beautifully bound and gotten up in an artistic manner. I believe Mr. Vroman had three sets bound in this form, one for himself, the remaining two, to sell. One set, was sold to a woman residing here. The price is thirty dollars for the five books. I'm still here, just waiting to sell the house. Then I will have to decide whether I will remain here, or go to Chicago. It has been so very warm
